We've gone to our roots, not the beginnings of Kentucky Wood Floors in 1977, but back to the first settlers of Kentucky in the second half of the 18th century when men like Lewis & Clark were launching their expedition from Louisville and Daniel Boone was exploring the Bluegrass. The early homeowners floored their homes with planks hewn from their prolific forests. But over the years these homes and their floors have become a thing of the past.
Today Kentucky Wood Floors is reproducing those floors of yesteryear in the Old Kentucky Collection, providing the discriminating specifier with a floor which appears as though it was reclaimed from a 200 year old Bluegrass home or commercial building. Its texture gives it a time worn appearance, right down to the unevenness one would expect to find due to its traffic-patterns and natural expansion and contraction over the years. Our master craftsmen and women have selected species with natural grain and character that make no two planks alike. They have recreated the lost look of square plugs that today are purely aesthetic but back then were necessary to keep the individual planks in place. Finally they can protect the surface with our proprietary, factory-applied finish to enable quick, job-site, nail-down installation and the ease in maintenance expected for today's residential, commercial and institutional applications.
